My friend is going to Montreal, a city I have always wanted to visit. She is going to a Formula 1 race with her husband, who used to race cars. This surprised me:
Me: You like racing??
She: It's Formula 1.
Me: You like racing??
She: It's Formula 1.
Me: What is that, like, NASCAR?
She: No! [Laugh] It's not NASCAR!
Then she gave me a list of names of some of the drivers I may have heard of through the years. They have names like Alain, Alberto, Fernando and Sebastian.*
Me: So it's snobby NASCAR.
She: [Laugh, eye roll]
Probably has better concession stands.

* NASCAR drivers have names like Jimmie Johnson.

Formula 1 racing is EXACTLY what snoburbanites should be following, if they are going to follow any sort of car racing. It's the Gold Cup with four wheels and much richer people.
Foreign driver names -- check
Expensive foreign cars -- check
Little to no overlap with drag racing/NASCAR fan base -- check

I'd go, but I have a Polo match to attend.

FYI - Modern Rallying has a blended F-1/drag racing/NASCAR fan base, albeit a little more hip-hop/flat-brimmed-hat/sk8r friendly.

Well... Formula 1 has a sort of euro-trash aura, it's not really snoburban. On the other hand, Formula 1 SUVs... that would be a different story.

Isn't it sort of, kind of like attending a Steeple Chase? Are people there for the racing or is it an excuse to have an outdoor high end picnic?
