I feel it, and now that big-box retail chain is marketing it: It's phone shame. I am possibly the only one in all of snoburbia without an iPhone (let alone 4G) or Blackberry. I'm fine with it, but the young'uns are horrified. Our antique 2009 phones are obviously affecting their social standing.

If your phone isn't a 2" x 3.75" version of your desktop computer, complete with a 1" x 1" screen that's obviously as easy to use as a 17" desktop monitor, you're nowheresville, man!
How do you show your face in public without the latest gadgetry? I'd be sure to wear a mask and disguise when I went out into the world if I didn't have the latest $500 digital gloryphone.
Also, if you're not in possession of a Droid or iPhone, you must remember to avoid the game of putting your phone on the table when you meet someone for coffee, drinks or a meal. As soon as others see your version of an oatmeal tin + thread, they will begin disowning you as a friend.
It's that serious!

One has to put it on the table next to him because it will not fit in a front pocket (what's "smart" about that?) It's the main reason I keep my antique phone.

One of the perils of older mobile phones is the difficulty of using texting if your work or your friends insist on using texts instead of phone calls. I recently got a more modern phone to have a simpler time of the texting gig because my job and my friends both prefer texts to talking.
I love these cultural shifts. I mean, I used to complain about the death of letter-writing as communicative form, and now that texts are eclipsing phone calls in my world, I'm getting bit on the ass by my prior gripes.
That's the sort of karma that a guy just can't ignore.

Phones are not supposed go into front pockets...
"Also, if you're not in possession of a Droid or iPhone, you must remember to avoid the game of putting your phone on the table when you meet someone for coffee, drinks or a meal."
That's in exceedingly bad taste. Phones should be kept hidden as much as possible.
