Awesome find--I just interviewed a couple of kids applying to Yale, and while neither of them were that craven, from what they told me, such thinking is endemic.
That is what we train our smart kids to do nowdays--not how to address the world's problems, which are taken as unsolvable, but how to spin them for their own personal benefit.

The shame is that the most of the money that was raised went into the pockets to make the rich richer, taking advantage of the disaster for profit. Not to the Haitians in need.
