We used to have a neighbor, Jimmy, who parked his shiny big red tow truck in front of the house he inherited from his parents. Late every evening he would pull in, tired from his physically challenging and messy day. Often he was called at 2 a.m. to rescue a stranded motorist in the middle of a blizzard, and his big truck would vroom and beep as it backed up. He put his truck in neutral while backing up, to reduce the noise. But this didn’t matter in the eyes of some neighbors: The tow truck was “ugly.”

Now Montgomery County, Maryland officials are considering a ban on large vehicle parking on residential streets, according to an article in The Washington Post.
The residents’ complaints? “Why should I bother to plant flowers? I might as well be in a campground,” said a woman of an RV on her street. “When it pulls up, I literally feel the joy draining out of my body.” Another neighbor reported that when the RV parks, her cocktail glasses shake ...
The last we heard, Jimmy had moved to the sunny Florida Keys, to live on a boat and become a treasure hunter...
